The seeds for Amber’s success can be traced to the encouragement she received from the vast number of family and friends who allowed her gift to blossom ever since she was a child. While singing at family gatherings was commonplace, it was only in 1992 that Amber began to perform in public, when she first sang at a Regional Catholic Women’s League Conference in her hometown. The month after that Amber used the confidence she gained from her first public appearance to win the coveted Métis Nation 1st Place Trophy in the adult category, even though she was only fourteen at the time. Then, still in the same year, she walked away with first place at the YTV Regional Trials for the Western Canada Search for Talent Contest.
